What is it about a water fountain that makes it unique?
We all love water fountains. When we are close to them, we have to stop and listen to the low murmur of the trickling water or watch as it cascades off into a basin of colored stones or over coins that dreamers have thrown, wistfully hoping that, one day, their dreams would come true. We can never resist dipping our fingers into flowing water.
The sight, sound and touch of moving water are things we just cannot resist. Water fountains come in all shapes and sizes which also makes them interesting. Large dominating outdoor fountains are used by cities and corporations, private individuals have them in their homes or gardens to create healthy relaxing environments.
No matter what shape or size a fountain is, whether free standing or fixed to a wall, they all have one thing in common. Water features attract people.
Fountains are focus points, objects on which to gaze and drift into day dreams. They are also backdrops creating low sounds that play softly on the subconscious ear, dulling external noises that would otherwise intrude.
They are landmarks that people use to find direction.
They are meeting places where people gather and mingle to talk business,
They are a place to sit and eat lunch
They are romantic places where people fall in love.
They have health qualities.
Some businesses have erected large water fountains at the entrance to their premises; A simple ploy that can gain a business a lot of recognition. Even people with no interest in the company will often mention the company name as they give directions – turn left at ABC Company’s water fountain.
Water fountains are used inside buildings to invite and relax the visitor before a meeting. Impromptu meetings are also held near indoor fountains because the moving water will hide the sounds of the conversation. Meetings tend to be more amicable and reach satisfactory conclusions when conducted near a water fountain.
Shopping malls use indoor fountains in their food courts to entice shoppers to stay and relax and shop some more. The longer shoppers stay in the mall the higher the buying potential.
Wedding photographers and wedding planners use fountains as a prop in their work. Fountains are romantic. The use of an indoor fountain at a wedding as a romantic backdrop or as a prop in wedding photographs is guaranteed to make a big splash.
- Fountains are not expensive to buy and they do pay dividends in the custom they attract.
- They are easy to install. They do not need to be plumbed in and only need a power source.
- They are easy to maintain. There is very little work involved in keeping a fountain clean and topped up.
- They are portable and can easily be relocated.
Any company that wants to attract visitors to its business should seriously consider installing a water fountain or water feature on their premises and watch the money pour in.
