It’s important you know something about drywalls. You may not become a carpenter someday. So okay. But you’d definitely want to own a house. In that regard, knowledge about drywalls is a must.

To understand drywall fillers, you must first understand drywalls.

A drywall is a special building material made from gypsum plaster compound that is pressed between thick sheets of paper. The three layers–paper, gypsum plaster, and then paper–is kiln dried to harden. The drywall filler is the gypsum plaster part of the drywall. It is the fundamental and most important aspect of this building material.

You can’t have a drywall without a drywall filler. The two sheets of paper are nothing without drywall filler and won’t be able to hold up no matter how much kiln drying is done.

But here is the thing. The term drywall filler is also used to refer to a special compound that professional drywallers use to patch up holes on the drywall left by nails and screws. Also called drywall filler coating, the compound is used to patch up cracks and holes that develop on the surface of the drywall over time.

Thanks to wear and tear, there’s no stopping drywalls from developing blemishes on its surface. There are dozens of reasons why a drywall would crack–moisture damage, old age, too much stress, it doesn’t matter. Fact is drywall cracks are inevitable. What you ought to do is prepare when it happens: either call a professional drywaller or perform the job yourself.

Calling a professional drywaller is the easiest solution. A good one should be able to fix up your drywall cracks in no time at all. But if you’re a do-it-yourself person, you can also perform the job yourself. Just make sure you do a good job of it.  Browse the Internet or ask an experienced friend or neighbor on how to patch up drywall cracks. Good luck getting to know more about firewalls.
