Build A Storage Shed And Clean Out Your Garage

By Jerry J. Jansen On December 14, 2009 Under Garage

An attached garage is a great addition to almost any home, but often it becomes too easy to throw everything not needed at the moment into the garage. Many garages become so packed with storage items that it becomes impossible to use the garage for its intended purpose, parking the cars out of the weather. When this happens, it is time to consider new places to store your goods.

An onsite storage building is one way that you can free up your garage. There are many cities or counties that will allow you to build the storage building up to 100 square feet without having to purchase a building permit or apply for government approval. Storage buildings are handy for many different reasons.

The garden shed is a perfect place for stashing all the gardening equipments. A mower or lawn vacuum can be stored here along with other landscaping tools to free up space in the garage for the vehicles.

There are many seasonal items that are used in the home that may need a place to be stored out of the weather. Some of the items to consider are Christmas or other decorations, home space heaters and window air conditioning units.

As you look around the garage there may be some things that you need to decide if you are going to use or sell and weed out the excess. If you have fitness exercise equipment that you are not planning to use again, why keep it. You might try listing such equipment on Craigslist. This forum for free classified ads is a great way to get rid of the excess and gain a little cash at the same time.

Many people find that placing a door on either end of the storage shed gives easier access to the items that are in the storage shed. Plan to spend some money when building a storage shed, but realize that the building will quickly pay for its self, especially when compared to rental facilities. In only a few months you would pay more for storage rental than to build a very nice shed.

By parking your vehicle inside a garage, you will increase the time that it can safely be used. In the summer, your garage will protect both the paint and the interior of the vehicle from damaging UV rays. During the winter, you will be able to get into your vehicle and drive out without having to wait for the windshield or windows to thaw. This can help to conserve gasoline.
